This policy explains what the UPKAAR Android application does with personal information. It covers the app only. It is written to be read by the people who use it — agents who collect deposits, and account holders who make them.
UPKAAR Social Welfare Foundation is the data controller for the information described here. Contact details are at the foot of this page.
The app displays, and in some cases lets you correct, membership records the Foundation already holds:
| Category | Fields |
|---|---|
| Identity and contact | Name, father's or husband's name, mobile number, WhatsApp number, email address, postal address, village or town, district, state, PIN code, date of birth, gender, nationality, occupation, marital status |
| Membership (KYC) | Membership type, which identity documents were produced, the type of photo ID and the last four digits only of that ID number, and an Aadhaar/UID number where the Foundation already holds one |
| Emergency contact | Name, relationship, mobile number and address of a person you nominate |
| Financial | Account numbers, savings plan, monthly instalment, deposits recorded, maturity date, and — for agents — commission earned and paid |
The app can read the barcode printed on a passbook so an account number does not have to be typed. The camera is used only while that screen is open, the image is decoded on your phone and is never stored and never transmitted. Only the number read from the barcode is used, and only to look up an account. Refusing the camera permission does not stop you using the app — the number can always be typed instead.
The app communicates only with the Foundation's own server at
https://uapi.uswf.in, over an encrypted HTTPS connection. Nothing is
sent anywhere else. Information is stored on the Foundation's systems in India
and is used to operate its savings and welfare schemes and to meet the
record-keeping obligations that apply to them.
It may be disclosed to auditors, professional advisers, or a public authority where the law requires it. It is not disclosed for any other purpose.
Membership and deposit records are kept for as long as the account is open, and afterwards for as long as accounting and regulatory rules require. The sign-in token on your phone expires automatically and is deleted when you sign out or uninstall the app.
Accounts are created by the Foundation's office, not inside the app — there is no way to register from the app. To close a membership account, or to ask for the personal information held about you to be deleted, contact the Foundation at the address below. Requests are answered within 30 days.
The app is intended for use by the Foundation's agents and adult account holders. It is not directed at children and is not designed for their use.
Traffic between the app and the Foundation's server is encrypted with HTTPS, and the released app refuses unencrypted connections. Access is controlled by a sign-in that expires, and each person sees only their own records: an account holder sees their own account, and an agent sees only the accounts and team members assigned to them.
If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it. Material changes will be notified through the app or by the Foundation directly.
